How Preparation H Works?
Preparation H has been a brand name for the treatment of hemorrhoids since 1926. Its active ingredient is Phenylephrine which acts to constrict blood vessels. Because hemorrhoids are caused by inflamed blood vessels, Preparation H effectively shrinks hemorrhoids to attain the relief you need.
Advantages
The Ointment is formulated with Petrolatum 71.9%, Mineral Oil 14%, Shark Liver Oil 3% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25% while the Suppositories has Cocoa Butter 85.5%, Shark Liver Oil 3%, and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%. Both formulations are intended to provide the following benefits:
• Relief of local itching and hemorrhoid discomfort.
• Temporary shrinking of hemorrhoidal tissue and relieve burning.
• Temporary relief of anorectal discomforts.
The Maximum Strength Cream is formulated with White Petrolatum 15%, Glycerin 14.4%, Pramoxine HCl 1% and Phenylephrine HCl 0.25%. This formulation is aimed at achieving the following benefits:
• Temporary relief of pain, soreness and burning.
• Relief of local itching and hemorrhoid discomfort.
• Temporary shrinking of hemorrhoidal tissue.
• Temporary relief of anorectal discomforts.
The Cooling Gel is formulated with Phenylephrine HCl 0.25% and Witch Hazel 50%. Its chief benefit includes:
• Relief of local itching and hemorrhoid discomfort.
• Temporary relief of irritation and burning.
• Temporary shrinking of hemorrhoidal tissue.
Directions for Use
To achieve its promised relief, follow the instructions on the label as indicated in each form as they vary in usage.
• For your safety, reject the package if the seal in its cap with either an embossed “H” or the name is broken or detached.
• Before administering to children 12 years and below, it is advised that you first consult with your doctor.
• Always cleanse the affected area with moist towel wipes and dry by patting with a soft tissue or cloth before applying.
• In all forms of Preparation H, apply it to your hemorrhoids 4 times every day, in the morning, before sleeping or after every bowel movement.
Possible Side Effects
There are no reported side effects when using Preparation H but it is advised that you consult with your doctor when you notice any of the following occurring after taking the medication:
• Bleeding in the rectal area, aggravated inflammation, redness, pain or irritation in the affected area.
• Severe allergic reactions like itching, rashes, hives, breathing difficulties, tightness in the chest, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue or mouth.
